Cybersecurity career pathways

Protect organisations and their AI systems: security operations, incident response, vulnerability management, AI security and governance.

Security teams need people who can investigate calmly, communicate clearly and understand how the business actually works. Professionals from IT support, operations, audit, compliance and the armed forces often transition well.

Can I get into cybersecurity without a technical background?

Yes, particularly through governance, risk and compliance roles, which value audit, legal, risk and operations experience. Security operations roles need more technical grounding, which the SOC pathway builds from networking fundamentals upwards.

Do I need certifications?

Certifications help pass CV screens for some employers, so each pathway notes the relevant ones. SprintPivot focuses on the practical evidence behind them: investigation write-ups, detection rules and risk assessments you can show in an interview.

What is AI security?

AI security covers risks specific to AI systems, such as prompt injection, data poisoning, model theft and insecure agent tools, along with how established security controls apply to them. It is a fast-growing specialism.

Will I practise on real systems?

You practise in safe, legal lab environments and on provided datasets such as sample logs and alerts. You never test systems you do not have permission to test.
